Towards Common Action on Maritime Commons -- Safeguarding Maritime Security in Asia through Regional Cooperation -- Workshop held in the Philippines
The workshop "Towards Common Action on Maritime Commons" -- Safeguarding Maritime Security in Asia through Regional Cooperation -- was held in Manila, the Philippines on June 15, 2015, hosted jointly by the Philippine Foreign Service Institute, the University of the Philippines, and the Institute for International Policy Studies.
Nearly 100 professionals, including leaders from the government, universities, and the press, participated in the workshop together with foreign experts from Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. In the opening session, Justice Antonio T. Carpio of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, who is an authority on South China Sea issues, delivered the keynote address. Afterward, current assessments and proposed measures on maritime security, including China's reclamations in the South China Sea, were discussed by the invited experts.
At the conclusion of the workshop, a press release was issued.
