On July 21, 2026, a delegation from the Foundation on Asia-Pacific Peace Studies visited the Nakasone Peace Institute (NPI).

The delegation, led by Dr. TUNG Li-Wen, President of the Foundation on Asia-Pacific Peace Studies, exchanged views with NPI researchers on a range of issues, including the security environment in the Indo-Pacific region, Japan-Taiwan relations, the planned 2026 revision of Japan's three key national security documents, and China's hybrid warfare activities. Representing NPI, Mr. TOKUCHI Hideshi, Research Advisor, and other researchers participated in the discussion.

The two sides reaffirmed the importance of Japan-Taiwan cooperation in maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, deterring a Taiwan contingency, advancing collaboration in technology and economic security─including emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and unmanned systems─and addressing hybrid warfare, including information operations in the cognitive domain. The two institutions also agreed to further strengthen their ties.
