NPI Hosts Special Seminar on the Changing Foundations of the International Order

On July 1, 2026, the Nakasone Peace Institute (NPI) held a special seminar titled "When the Foundations of the International Order Are Shifting: Interdependence, Institutions, and Cooperation Reconsidered." Against a backdrop of growing geopolitical competition and rising economic security concerns, experts from Japan and Europe explored how interdependence, institutions, and international cooperation are being transformed and discussed policy responses for the years ahead.

NPI has published a Hybrid Threats Case Database.

This database systematically compiles cases of hybrid threats from around the world and enables searches by tools, actors, target regions or countries, year of event, and keywords. By making this database publicly available, we aim to provide a research resource on hybrid warfare for users both domestically and internationally.

We discussed how to interpret the Chinese government's listing of Japanese corporations on its Entity List and what kinds of responses may be possible, taking into account China's current perception of Japan, which is often represented by the term "neo-militarism."

The Japan-U.S. Alliance Study Group at Nakasone Peace Institute (NPI) held the open webinar. It analyzed and discussed how the policies of the second Trump administration have affected the Indo-Pacific region amid rapidly shifting conditions around the world.
